Imagine that you can go anywhere in the world and, without much ado you can speak to anyone and understand everyone you come in contact with without having first learnt the language they speak, and you can understand one another as easily as when you speak with those of same language as you speak!
Does it sound too futuristic, perhaps utopian or maybe too good to be true or possible? Well, what will technology not give to the world, in a positive sense!
Now, wait for this: Travis the Translator, touted as the world’s first smart pocket translator powered by artificial intelligence, has come as the answer to possibly all translation problems the world has known occasioned by language barrier.
It goes without saying that language barrier has been a stumbling block in relations from the local level to the global level, making business and social relationships difficult in many instances, and for some, practically impossible.
Just think of a Chinese Mandarin speaking investor attempting to hold business discussions with persons in parts of Africa, with neither party able to speak or understand the language understood and spoken by the other party. Deadlock! Business opportunity lost, investment lost.
There are believed to be around 6,500 spoken languages in the world today. Whereas Mandarin Chinese is the most popular language in the world with 1,213,000,000 people that speak it, there are about 2,000 of the 6,500 total languages in the world that have fewer than 1,000 speakers.
Now thanks to Travis the Translator, the barrier created by language between tribes, countries and continents is being broken. The gadget breaks the barriers between languages and allows travellers and international professionals to communicate effortlessly with anyone, anywhere. And, as the manufacturers proudly chant: ‘finally, with Travis, you can truly go global and speak local!’
After its worldwide successful debut earlier this year Travis the Translator is the first translation technology to bring to life and deliver to customers the world’s first universal translator.
Currently Travis the Translator “speaks 80 languages”, that is, the device seamlessly translates the 80 languages in seconds, real time, without any intermediary.
Whereas this is a huge leap, the device, or any other that may be introduced, has a huge journey to travel: to “speak” the known 6,500 languages in the world today!
Travis the Translator, product of Dutch innovation created in Rotterdam, only a few months ago, began a crowd-funding campaign aiming to raise funds for its personal voice translator powered by AI, which translates instantly between users speaking different languages.
After being successfully crowd-funded from 100 countries the first 5,000 pre-orders are being produced and were due for shipping to all early adopters already this late June, being beginning of summer, with the next ones planned for September 2017. It’s the first company to deliver to market such a revolutionary product so successfully crowd-funded only a few months back.
“We don’t want to wait to produce perfect translations, as basic ones can already make a big difference in understanding and communicating. Those receiving the first devices will not only be able to understand others better, but they will also contribute to technology improvement,” said Lennart van der Ziel, Chief Executive Officer of Travis.
In order to do this, Travis is on the mission to create a strong community of 50,000 active users before the end of the year 2017, who will always receive updates as the product is being continuously improved.
Travis has already launched local activation campaigns in Spain www.travistraductor.es/lanzamiento as well as in the Netherlands www.travistolk.nl/lancering, where it received the highest interest yet, in pursuit of its mission to create a world without language barriers where everyone can have an equal voice.
Travis is set to build a strong user base of supporters who will be essential in providing the necessary feedback.
Inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to reduce inequality and ensure inclusive and quality education for all, Travis is also partnering with local Spanish and Dutch social organisations, which will be announced shortly, to promote its social cause.
Travis B.V., consisting of an experienced international team operating from three continents: Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Boston/New York City (USA) and Shenzhen (China), has developed Travis the Translator, the world’s first smart pocket translator that works with Artificial Intelligence.
Travis the Translator – personal voice translator Travis is a pocket-sized smart handy device that uses artificial intelligence to instantly recognise and translate speech in 80 languages, all in less than two seconds. It includes offline and online mode, 12-hour battery and several other features that make it unique.
