BREAKING: IDIGEST NEWS Rendezvous Technology Telecom Telecom

Olusola Teniola Becomes ATCON President

Apparently aware of the lacklustre image the body has fallen into in the last few years, Mr. Olusola Teniola, in taking over the reins of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), as president, promises to reposition the once vibrant association.

ATCON, which was once the most visible industry association in the telecom sector, has descended into near obscurity with little effect on operations and policy thrusts of government at all levels with its opinion an input hardly sought; unlike in the past when ATCON literally ruled the Nigerian telecom space.

In an election, which turned out to be a mere change of positions that saw officers moving up one notch, Teniola, who is Chief Executive Officer at Internet Solutions Nigeria Limited, was the association’s first vice president.

Coming shortly after the association’s Annual General Meeting held on May 11, 2016, officers such as Mr Tony Nwosu, previously second vice president becomes first vice president, while David Roberts becomes second vice president, with former publicity secretary, Myke Ofili now  National Secretary; Mrs Adeyegbe Aderonke maintains her position of treasurer. The office of publicity secretary remains unfilled, among other positions which remained vacant reflecting an apparent lack of interest among members, many of who had been complaining of not being consulted or being carried along by the association’s immediate past leadership.

Teniola said: “I want to say assuredly that I would work tirelessly to take ATCON as an institution to an enviable position through execution of programmes that would aid telecoms industry growth,” adding that the new executive would be more proactive.

“This administration shall not be reactionary but more proactive, pragmatic and involving. We want to further promotion and encourage harmonious relationship which would impact positively on the general wellbeing of our members as well as Nigerians.

“All pending issues in the industry we shall plan to resolve them so that more investors can come to our sector.”
