Buhari Appoints Senator Durojaiye Chairman of new NCC Board

Exactly two days shy of one year after he sacked the last board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), President Muhammadu Buhari, August 2, 2016, named a new board, picking Fourth Republic Senator, Otunba Olabiyi Durojaiye to chair the new board of the commission.

President Buhari on August 4, 2015 sacked the previous board chaired by Peter Igoh which had Eugene Juwah as executive vice chairman. Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta was then named to replace Juwah.

Although Prof. Danbatta’s appointment has since been confirmed, the naming of other commissioners by President Buhari formally completes the board’s constitution.

Communicating his choice and decisions to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in a letter dated August 2, 2016, President Buhari named Durojaiye, to represent the South West, while Mr. Sunday Dare, a former media aide to Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was named as the NCC’s Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders Management. He replaces Mr. Okechukwu Itanyi, who last held that position. Mr. Dare will also represent the south west.

It is to be noted that Engr. Ubale Maska is already serving as Executive Commissioner, Technical Services; and represents north west.

The letter also named others to serve as Non-Executive Commissioners of the NCC on its board; they include Aliyu Sa’idu Abubakar (North East), Clement Omeiza Baiye (North Central), Okoi Ofem Obono Obla (South South), Ezekiel Yissa (North Central) and Ifeanyi Ararume (South East).
