Huawei G8 Unveiled at IFA 2015

Not long after announcing the Mate S, Huawei returned with the launch of a second smartphone at IFA 2015: the Huawei G8. The Huawei G8, a perfect phablet, fits underneath the Mate S in terms of performance, but has a few premium features and an all metal design to interest buyers.

Made of 90 per cent metal, the Huawei G8 has the premium quality design on lockdown. On the back of the smartphone, there are rubberized parts offering more grip to the user. The 5.5-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display is another high-end feature of the Huawei G8. Internally, the smartphone runs on a Qualcomm 615 octa-core processor, which is a step down from the Snapdragon 810 processor on the Mate S.

Other internals include 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage (22GB available), a 3,000mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, and 4G LTE. There is a Micro SD card slot for additional storage, but the battery is non-removable. Huawei claims that there will be no network connection issues due to the double antennas on the top and bottom of the smartphone.

Huawei says the G8 camera has exceptional low-light performance, using dynamic lighting. The 13-megapixel sensor isn’t that impressive, though, considering Sony announced the Xperia Z5 with a 23-megapixel sensor and optical image stabilization at IFA 2015, as well.

The Huawei G8 will also feature a fingerprint sensor on the back of the smartphone. The indent is below the camera sensor, and it should be able to recognize a fingerprint in half a second.

Huawei has announced that the new G8 will be available in several markets starting this month at a recommended retail price of EUR 399 ((about N88508.29). Some of the markets where the Huawei G8 will be available include China, Egypt, Germany, Malaysia, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, and United Kingdom among others. Word has it that Nigeria could be a priority market for the device, though this could not be independently confirmed.

The Huawei G8 comes with a 5.5-inch full-HD display and features a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass.

The handset features an all metal body, a highlight of the G8, and has the fingerprint scanner at the back of the handset. Huawei notes that the G8 smartphone sports Fingerprint Sense 2.0 and has 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and dual-tone flash, along with 3GB of RAM, and a choice between 32GB and 64GB of expandable internal memory.

The dual-SIM handset supports 4G LTE on both the SIM cards.

The new G8 smartphone is available in Dark Silver, Gold, and White colours. Its rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is fast, activating with just a touch.
